Jupiter Bokondji, an iconic figure from Kinshasa known as the “Rebel General,” brings the world a unique sound where Congolese roots blend with rock, funk, and soul influences. With his band, Jupiter & Okwess, he unleashes explosive energy, drawing from the musical richness of his homeland while building bridges between Africa and the world.
In their fourth album, Ekoya (“It Will Come”), set for release on January 31, Jupiter invites us to ponder: what does “it will come” mean? Is it a prophecy of an inevitable destiny, or a form of quiet resignation? The project evolved through travels and encounters across the Americas, from north to south. With the captivating groove of Jupiter & Okwess, Ekoya takes us on a musical journey filled with reflection and rhythm, movement and dreams, carried by a rebellious and universal energy.
